Off the vent!

Sorry for the lack of updates… (I guess you could say we’ve been busy)

Tuesday got off the vent on Friday after 25 days, 9 of which were spent on the oscillator.
One of her two sedation drugs came off this am, the other one will come off at 1pm today.
She’s moving all over her bed and as soon as her nurse gets all her cords untangled, she flips around and tangles them again.
Her time in the PICU is coming to an end!

Exhale, Inhale, Hold It, Hold It…Exhale

Posted by Sara

To have “bated breath” means breathing that is subdued because of some emotion or difficulty (thanks Google). We all wait with bated breath to hear from the Whitts. We hope each day to exhale deeply with relief at good news. I spoke with Jessica this morning and she asked that I give you an update. I am happy to report that things are going well. Yes, exhale people.

The embodiment of bated breath herself, Miss Tuesday has done well with the vent tests she’s been doing (these check her ability to breathe on her own, and that her lungs can effectively exchange oxygen). Today’s test went well and hopefully lays the foundation for her to get off the ventilator soon.

Her fluid levels are down, and she’s gained two pounds since entering the hospital. Good girl! Tuesday will begin round two of chemo today, as scheduled. That is a good thing!

Keep up all your positive thoughts and prayers (particularly regarding the passage of fluids)! And keep breathing, everyone.

Fundraiser For Tuesday

Posted by Sara:

Hello Everyone,

There will be a benefit dinner and silent auction honoring Tuesday Whitt on October 12, 2008 at 6 o’clock in the evening. All proceeds from the dinner ticket sales and silent auction items will go directly to the Whitt family to assist with the management of Tuesday’s medical bills.

Dinner will be held at the beautiful ‘Club at Pradera’ overlooking the golf course. See http://www.theclubatpradera.com for photos of this delightful venue. Dinner will be prepared specifically for our event by wonderful gourmet chefs. The meal will include a salad, entrée, iced tea/water and a beautiful desert buffet. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased by contacting Jennifer Neeley at happygirl18@gmail.com. Seating is limited to 120 people so tickets will be sold on a first come-first served basis only. There will be no admittance on the night of the event without prepayment.

A silent auction will be displayed from 6-8 pm and auction winners will be announced at 8:30 pm. Payment must be made in full by check or via paypal the night of the event. Items that cannot be paid for or are not bid on will be put on a website for open bidding.

During this event a photographer will be present to photograph couples and groups for a nominal fee as part of the fundraising event.

This event is semi-formal. Adults only please.

We look forward to seeing you there!

3001: A Pee Odyssey

**UPDATED**

So as of just a few minutes ago Tuesday was down to 3001 ML positive for her I&O.  That’s hospital talk for Ins and Outs.  You might think that seems high, and you’d be correct, but it’s less than half of where she was just a week ago.  Since the next round of chemo starts Monday, she should be in a great place fluid wise.  (Tuesday was 6.4 liters up for fluid, that’s 6400 milliliters or ML.  She’s now down to 3 liters or 3001 milliliters or 3001 ML.  Getting rid of the fluid leaves more room for things like, um… her lungs and her heart.  Chemo requires lots of fluids so starting with no extra fluids is great).  Where did she store all those fluids?  Topic for another post.

As noted earlier, she’s off the oscillator and back to the normal vent.  She’s being weaned down on her sedatives and her vent support.
Everyone who stops by says she just keeps looking better and better.
Now all we need to do it get off the vent, go back up to the 7th floor (oncology) and kick the shit out of her cancer.
