Who is more nervous?

John, Barack, or Jessica?

Surgery started at 10:30.  That’s after they were not going to do surgery because her counts were too low.  Should they?  Shouldn’t they?  Risk of infection?  Bleeding?  Blah, blah, blah….
The verdict was to go ahead.  We just heard from the nurse and the incision has been made.
Things to pray for:
Complete resection of primary tumor.  And the tumor by her heart if they choose to tackle that.
That the platelets last thru the surgery without need of another transfusion.
That she stays infection free.
That she does not need to remain intubated after surgery.
I’ll keep updating as they keep updating.

Results

Sorry for the delay in posting scan results.  It’s been busy around here and absolutely gorgeous outside.  Much too pretty to be on the computer.  Anyhoo, here is a copy of an email I sent to some friends on Friday.  Now, back to the great out doors.  We have piles of leaves that need jumped in.

Halloween pictures to come.
xoxo
What a long couple of days.  I just took a nap with the girls and was totally out of it when I woke up.
All in all we got good news.  The bone scan came back clean.  SHe had a lesion on each femur and a small spot on her hip.  These no longer are there.  Phew.  Her MIBG, which is the most sensitive test, showed a trace amout in the left femur, so apparently there is still some cell activity there but no one is concerned with that.  They said it will most certainly be wiped out with the final round of chemo and definitely by the stem cell transplant.  Her primary tumor on her adrenal gland started off at 12.5 cm X 15.5 cm. Measure that sucker out on a piece of paper if you want to be shocked.  It was freaking enormous.  It is now a 3.5 x 5 cm, mostly dead tumor.  A little smaller than a golf ball.   This is a major accomplishment for a NB tumor.  There is still some involvement with her arteries and vessels, but it looks like dead tissue.  SOmetimes this just peels away from what is in contact with. SOmetimes not.  We wont know until the surgeon is in there.  They may need to remove Tuesday’s right kidney and again, wont know til they are in there.  The only kind of bummer news that we got is that she still has a 1cm nodule of dead, calcified tumor near her heart that needs to be removed.  The surgeon isn’t real excited about doing it but Oncology says it needs to come out.  This is still up for debate.  It will ultimately be radiated, although this is also up for debate because they have not had an issue where there was a tumor touching the heart before.  All of the big wigs around the country are discussing the best plan for minimal long term damage to Tuesday. SO, mostly great news.  We will deal with the so so news when we have more info.  We all got teary eyed and her Primary oncologist and fellow both called her a miracle and said they could have never imagined that she would be where she is today.  God has been hard at work in our little girl.
Surgery is on Tuesday the 4th of Nov.  followed by her 6th and final round of induction chemo when she recovers.  We will be in the hospital for about 2 and 1/2 weeks.  Then home until the 27th of Dec.  for transplant.  That is a story for another time.
Thanks for thinking of us and praying for us.

Scans

Charley and Tuesday just left for the hospital while I stay and get the kids off to school.  This morning Tuesday will get a CT scan and a bone scan, CBC and injections of a radioactive isotope for her MIBG scan tomorrow.  We (mostly me) are a bit freaked.  We have not had a look at the tumor or other “spots” since after her 2nd cycle of chemo.  Anything is possible.  As we’ve witnessed, all things are possible with God.

Please pray for Miss T today.  Clean scans.
Surgery is scheduled for Nov. 4th and it sure would be nice if there was just a teeny tiny tumor left to remove.

Which do I love the most…

Stickers, Bananas or Nuks?

The kindness of strangers.

In addition to flying from Atlanta to Denver to help with the kids, Charley’s aunt SuSu has been busy pounding the pavements of Conyers, GA. to raise money for Tuesday’s medical expenses.

She and Uncle Jim are proving to be quite the fundraisers.  They ask, and the kind people of Georgia dig deep to help us.  Gift certificates to restaurants, hair cut-a-thons in Tuesday’s honor and donations, donations, donations.  You southerners do “giving” a good name.  We thank you all.
An extra big Thank You to SuSu and Jim.  We love you.
And then what should come in the mail but a care package from Florida, filed with gift cards and donations and hand made pictures and cards and books and LOVE.  Now we see why we have not been able to get Dana and Taylor to move
back to Colorado.  You are amazing folks.  Thanks you for your continued prayers and support.  Inside was also a donation from Dana’s “Granny” and her church and friends.  More people that have never met us but are touched by Tuesday’s fight.  Amazing.
These last woman, once upon a time, fell in to the stranger category.  A group of women that I met online while looking for support and advise on a twin pregnancy, have become a group of dear friends.  These friends and their families have sent us a care package every week since Tuesday’s diagnosis, and yet, most of these women I’ve never even “met”.  The kids SO look forward to the packages.  We’ve always made an effort to show them the importance of caring for other people so it’s fun for them to see the flip side.  To see how cared for we have been and continue to
be.  While visiting for the Benefit dinner, Dawn, Jane and Shannon brought with them a quilt that they all made for Tuesday.  It is beautiful.  Every square has a picture of one of the twins from our group.  All of the kids are represented.  These

are children that I’ve watched grow from before birth and children that I know

will be life long friends with Tuesday and Piper.  You can feel the love that went in to it.  I love it.  I love them.  An extra big shout out to Heather and her mom.  What a perfectly beautiful job you did.
You keep us going.  Your prayers, your food, your love, energy, kindness, phone calls, emails, comments, packages, all of it.  All of it.
We are home from the hospital.  Tuesday is maxed out.  We are all pretty pooped.  Here’s to a lovely Colorado fall weekend.
