Spring

Spring decided to show off her arrival in Colorado with perfect, 70 degree weather. I’m sitting out on my front stoop. Don’t remember spring being so loud. Doves and dogs and songbirds and squirrels all competing for my attention. All of them in pairs. It is spring after all, but I can’t help but see them as twins. Perfectly paired. A lone songbird is singing away in the tree above while all the others appear to be playing a game of tag. Is she over compensating because she is alone? Look at me! Or does she just have more to sing about? Wants to share it with the world?
I needed spring. The warmth, the green, the new life. Longer days and shorter nights, which is good for those of us who lay awake with the weight of the world as our bed mates.
Piper comes running outside, tripping in Tuesday’s too tight, sparkly-pink shoes. When I ask her if they are too tight she answers, “No, Mama. They’re just perfect.”

i’ve noticed that sadness heightens my senses, as well. we’ve had a tiny glimpse of spring, but things are still pretty cold and grey here.

One of your perfect pair is missing – I think thats been part of my extreme sadness for your family. When you have twins, you do seem to notice the pairs probably more than others. God seemed to like pairs! You have 4 beautiful children.
    Keeping you in my prayers!

I’ve read your blog for a while now and have never commented. Just wanted to let you know that I think about you and your family everyday. I’m not religious but I truly believe that Tuesday is some place that’s safe and happy, watching over you guys, especially Piper. I know that you will see her again someday. But for now you will have to settle for feeling and seeing her in the beauty around you. In every breeze and every ray of sunshine. She is with you.

The weather here has been beautiful. I sort of dread the snow on Monday, but we could use the moisture and it looks like it will be beautiful again on Wednesday.

We think of you everytime we go on a walk. Its amazing that I think about people I have never met, I guess it feels like there is some sort of internet connection through that feeling of being a mom. Enjoy the beauty outside. The mountains are such a sight this time of year.

I am so glad spring has arrived. You will plant veggies, plant flowers and find some joy in the little things that give you some comfort.
I remember not too long ago you posting about Tuesday being a little bird… perhaps that bird singing loudly above was a gift from your little bird… to get you to see, Tuesday is everywhere around you…always, forever… with you.

  26. Beth says:

I have to agree with Brandi about the bird, at least that was what I thought when I read your post.

My friend lost her dad on April 20 of last year. It was a sudden and unexpected massive heart attack. Anyway I noticed all the flowering Phlox blooming everywhere that week. I think I will always associate his death with the blooming of the Phlox. I love this time of year. New life beginning. Hugs to you.

I think of the shoes that Piper was wearing, and immediately thought of the Wizard of Oz….”Theres No Place Like Home”…..especially on a beautiful spring day on the porch…….

  34. Grannysaurus says:

  35. Lynn says:

Glad you’re having spring! Hope it continues!
The Lord knows everything that’s going on and is always there, working. I’m here praying!
Hebrews 4:13-16 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

  45. Tamara aka Cheapskate Mom says:

Isn’t it amazing how Spring just shows up overnight here in Colorado? I noticed today my grass has signs of life under that crunchy brown dead stuff, and my lavender bushes have green buds peeking out from their arms. I swear yesterday everything looked dull and lifeless.

    Piper in Tuesday’s shoes…so sweet.

My prayers are always with you.

I like many commenting here find great significance with the lone songbird. You once said Tuesday was your little bird and you were fighting so hard to "fix" her, I truly believe that the lone songbird was another sign that your precious baby girl Tuesday is with you always! We think about your family everyday. We continue to pray for strength, health, and healing for all. We are sending each of you great big hugs!

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

I have this quote on my kitchen window sill surrounded by pictures of the children in our family who have died:

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.”

You and your beautiful family are in my prayers.

These words never cease to amaze me. Chronologically they were some of the first words of Scripture ever written…praying so from Seattle right now!
Job 19:25-27 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
